- Each year APRNs with prescriptive authority must obtain six contact hours of CE in pharmacotherapeutics in their advanced nursing role and population foci. Since renewal occurs every two years, APRNs with prescriptive authority who are selected for the audit must provide 12 contact hours of CE in pharmacotherapeutics.
- Required courses
- RN: Continuing-competency requirements may be met through qualifying nursing practice and/or continuing education under the Board's current rules. LPN: No general fixed CE-hour requirement for ordinary renewal. Action: Fast CE's older “30 hours or 900 practice hours” wording should be rechecked before being retained. - Good to know
- Louisiana's RN renewal/continuing-competency system is not accurately represented by simply saying “30 CE hours or 900 practice hours.” The Board uses practice/CE competency requirements and the exact requirement depends on the nurse's practice history. LPNs do not have the same general CE requirement as RNs. Source: Louisiana State Board of Nursing.
