Florida nursing CE requirements: what changed and what didn't

A plain-language walkthrough of Florida's 24-hour biennium, the mandatory topics, and how electronic reporting works.

Florida nurses renew on a two-year cycle and need 24 contact hours, but the part that trips people up is the mandatory topic list. Hours alone are not enough — several specific subjects must appear on your transcript.

The recurring topics each biennium are medical errors prevention (2 hours), laws and rules of nursing (2 hours), and recognizing impairment in the workplace (2 hours). Human trafficking and HIV/AIDS are one-time requirements for most licensees, and domestic violence (2 hours) comes around every third biennium.

Because Florida uses electronic reporting, approved providers transmit completions on your behalf. That does not remove your responsibility to keep certificates — audits happen, and a missing certificate is your problem, not the provider's. Your Fast CE For Less vault keeps every certificate for years, whether or not your subscription is active.

If you hold a compact multistate license, remember that the state where you practice may add its own expectations. Add each license to your profile and we will track the requirements separately.
